Route 9 north of Warrensburg, the back way to Fort Ann, the stretch of the Northway where the stations are further apart than you remember. People misjudge it, or the gauge is optimistic, or the plan was to fill up on the way back.

We bring enough fuel to get you to the nearest station under your own power. We are not filling your tank at the roadside, just enough to end the problem.

Tell us which one when you call. Putting the wrong fuel in is a much bigger and much more expensive problem than being empty, so we ask twice and so should you.

Already put the wrong fuel in?

Do not start the engine. Seriously, do not. A tank of the wrong fuel that has not been circulated is a drain-and-refill. A tank of the wrong fuel that has been run through the system is a repair bill. Call us and we will tow it to a shop before it gets worse.

What to have ready

• Gas or diesel, and the octane if you know it
• Exactly where the vehicle is sitting, and whether it is on a shoulder or off the road
• Whether it is safe for you to wait in the vehicle or you should be standing well clear of traffic
