Why nobody posts a price list
Search for what a tow costs around Glens Falls or Saratoga and you will get a lot of pages that never answer the question. That is partly evasion and partly because the honest answer is that it depends, and it depends on more things than most people expect.
A two-mile hookup from a parking lot in Queensbury on a Wednesday afternoon is one job. Pulling the same car out of a ditch on Route 149 at 2am in February and hauling it thirty miles is a completely different one. A single posted number would be wrong for both.
So here is what we do instead. You call, you describe the situation, and you get the price for your job before a truck is dispatched. If the number does not work for you, no hard feelings and nothing has cost you anything. Nobody arrives, hooks up, and then talks about money.
The six things that move the price
Distance
How far the vehicle is going is usually the biggest single factor. Most towing pricing has a hookup charge plus a per-mile rate, so a cross-town tow and a run to a dealer three counties over are not close to the same job.
Vehicle type and weight
A compact car on a flatbed and a three-quarter-ton pickup are different work with different equipment. Motorcycles, boats and trailers each need their own gear.
Time of day
A Tuesday afternoon and a Saturday at 3am are not the same call. Overnight and holiday work generally carries a different rate, the same as it does in any trade.
How hard it is to get to you
A car in a flat parking lot loads in minutes. A car nose-down in a ditch off a rural road needs a winch, more time, and sometimes a second set of hands. That is a recovery, not a tow, and it is priced as one.
Condition of the vehicle
Wheels that turn, a transmission in neutral and a steering lock that releases all make the job quicker. A wrecked vehicle, seized wheels, or one with no key takes longer and needs more equipment.
Who is paying
If your insurance or a motor club covers the tow, a lot of this may not touch you at all. Tell us who they are on the phone and we will sort out what can be billed directly.
What we will not do
- Quote you one number on the phone and a different one at the roadside
- Start the meter running before you have agreed to the job
- Add charges at the end that were never mentioned
- Hold your vehicle hostage over a disputed bill
Towing has a reputation, and it was earned by companies doing exactly those things to people on the worst day of their month. We would rather be the ones people call again.
If you are shopping around
Fair enough, and here is how to do it properly. Ask every company the same three questions: what is the hookup, what is the per-mile, and what changes after hours. A company that will not answer those on the phone is telling you something. Also ask whether the quote covers a winch-out if the vehicle is off the road, because that is where surprise charges usually come from.

You get the quote before we roll and settle up on completion. Card, cash, or direct billing through a covered policy.
Can you give me an exact price over the phone?
For a straightforward tow, yes. For a recovery where the vehicle is off the road, we give you the quote once we can see what is actually involved, because guessing at a winch-out sight unseen helps nobody.
